This is one of the main things I think about when the 4th of July rolls around:



We don't have much to celebrate this year. Everyone's locked up, our freedoms are being taken away by easily offended snowflakes, racism made an unwanted comeback, and everyone wants to destroy what America stands for.

(Rape) Revenge flicks vs psycho cat and mouse movies

Lately I have seen a movie in each of the above categories.

Rape-revenge:

Even lambs have teeth (2015)
Two young female students are going to work on a farm. However there is no farming to do as they are baisically used as prostitues being locked in a container. They manage to eventually get out and take revenge on all the people that are involved in the whole business. It's not very explicit but especially the revenge part is brutal. And it might actually be a much more believable approach than most of the movies in this subgenre. Take Revenge (2017) which had an interesting premise but the revenge part is basically a splatter show with no logic whatsoever. Not to be taken serious IMO. ELHT had a much simpler approach and felt much more effective. I actually lowered my rating for Revenge from 6 to 4/10 after seeing ELHT.


Psycho cat and mouse:
What keeps you alive (2018)
A couple decides to spend the weekend in a house/cottage near a lake in the woods. The special thing is that it is a lesbian couple celebrating their 1 year anniversary. One of them actually spends most of her childhood there. It's also that girl that proves not to be the sweet thing she appears to be at first. It's the story of the psycho who for one or the other reason likes to kill hunting down their victim(s) in a cat and mouse game. In some cases the prey becomes the hunter. The movie offers a few surprises but again there is also a lot of the things that actually will irk me, make me impatient or almost make me want to scream at the screen asking them to hurry up and come to a conclusion. WKYA is probably one of the 'better' in this subgenre.


While the concept sounds good of these kind of movies they are IMO not very effective as full feature. If you need to fill 90 minutes or more it's bound to get repetitive, characters must do dumb things, coincidences will happen, people keep going despite the wounds and survive nasty falls. Eden Lake is possibly the best example where all logic is defied expecting the viewer to turn of its brain. Or some try the long build-up approach were almost nothing happens. Seems clever but this viewer might lose interest before the good parts even are to start. Wolf Creek (2005) is possibly the one taking the unexciting build-up to an extreme. No that the violence that followed was so shocking it was worth the wait. And there is complete riciculous ones like High Tension (2003) mostly thanks to a dumb twist making everything that happened before totally impossible or House of 1000 Corpses mostly because of a director who thinks his wife is a good actress.


It might be mostly personal preference why rape revenge works much better for me than the psycho stuff. But as I described earlier it's not always a winner like Revenge or The Last House on the Left where the misplaced country music and comedy cops ruined the experience mostly for me (and the violence wasn't that shocking IMO).

JULY SEA MONSTER CHALLENGE!!!
Hey everyone. I hope all is well. There is one week left until July so I thought I would go ahead and post the signup thread and rules!

This challenge will begin July 1st at midnight and will end August 1st at midnight.

Ways to earn points will be simple.
-2pts if it's a FTV
-1pt if it's a rewatch
-1pt for each kill/victim (has to be an onscreen kill)
-1pt if the sea monster is a mixed breed!

The Tenant (1976)

Any fans? What a strange movie. I think I liked it more this time around than my initial watch which was over 10 years ago. It's definitely a slow-burn with little payoff, unfortunately, but it does have a fairly charming quality to it.

Firstly, Roman Polanski's acting is something else. He's on par with Tommy Wiseau at times. Despite little of note happening, his acting "skills" and his heavy accent make it oddly watchable. Secondly, while its first and foremost a thriller, I think it's got a heavy dose of black comedy to it too. Not sure if it's intentional but scenes of Polanski becoming a cross-dresser are hard to take seriously.

Not as good as Rosemary's Baby, of course, but a neat end to Polanski's so-called "Apartment Trilogy" (with Repulsion being the first.)

If a TV show offends you, here's an idea...

DON'T FUCKING WATCH IT!!! What the fuck gives you the right to take it away from all the people who aren't offended??! Your feelings are not more important than mine!

I'm offended by bullshit like American Idol, but it doesn't matter because I don't watch it. I would NEVER try to take it away from anybody else, because I am not a PIECE OF SHIT!!!

This is how Nazi Germany got started. Look at everyone resigning from their jobs and begging for forgiveness out of fear. These are very scary times we are living in.

They should ban 'Roots'

It depicts black people as slaves, and that offends me.

They should also ban every movie with predominantly white casts for not being diverse enough. Those movies are the worst.

Linnea Quigley

She's by far my favorite horror actress. There's just something about her. Beyond her looks and bodacious bod, I think she's got a sexy voice. Plus she stars in a lot of fun B-movie crap that I love. I'm thinking of going on a Linnea Q movie binge and filling in the gaps in her resume that I've missed after seeing Jack-O (1995) for the first time last night where she plays a fairly substantial role.

Okay, I'm totally drunk, and he will probably kill me, but box if you don't like this post I give you full permission to delete it!

Okay that being said, @Box_A_Hair has three amazing books to read. He is an amazing author, and his stories are the perfect trash! Give them a chance, and tell box how much you love him.

I prefer his second book, but his third book is amazing, and gory and if you love horror, trash, and just pure craziness at points go read his books!

Box has made and incredible site, and also shared his stories with us. He is extremely talented and I think you guys will think so as well.

I'm not gonna day much because I don't want to spoil it, but as an avid reader his book is amazing, and needs to be read! So if you're a reader on this site, go read box's books! Trust me they are definitely worth tour time!
