I was watching an episode of It's Always Sunny and I spotted the director of #Obsession.
I was like, "That albino looking mf looks like Curry Barker". And it was.

I just watched #TalesFromTheCrypt season 3 episode 1: "Loved to Death".
This one is marked as a big inspiration for #Obsession, so I was curious how it compared.
Andrew McCarthy plays a writer who lusts after his neighbor played by Mariel Hemingway. She's pretty much Nikki to Bear. Teases him sometimes, but is generally meh about him. His landlord gives him a love potion for her, then she wants him. Nonstop.
The overall tone is pretty different, but it's definitely a similar premise AND a similar ending. He tries to undo it and it only ends up worse. Not exactly the same ending, but pretty similar. It definitely must have been on Curry Barker's mind when he wrote Obsession (along with that Simpsons episode).

#Obsession (2025)
After being put in the friend zone, Bear makes a wish that "Nikki loved me more than anyone in this fucking world". Suffice to say, some wishes do come true. In the traditional monkey's paw sense, the result isn't "love". It's... Obsession.
It's a slow burn that gets increasingly more unsetting as the girl's mindset deteriorates. It's creepy because of things like unnatural movements, unpredictable behaviors, and separation anxiety. You'll be uncomfortable because you'll always be expecting her to do something weird, like smiling too much or staring too hard. She does a wonderful job at being completely psychotic.
This movie was made for less than a million dollars, and for that low of a budget, it's fucking fantastic. Take note, Hollywood! Yeah, I'm talking to you, dipshits! With your obscenely bloated budgets and overpaid actors. Stop putting all your eggs in one basket and make more low-budget movies that wont bankrupt you if they bomb. This fucking movie made about 250x its budget back, which is insane.
