Mr. Mercedes - 2017 tv series

Yeah, it's another Stephen King story turned into pop-culture mini-series. The prologue shows a man run down a crowd of innocents in 2009, and now... in 2011... the retired detective is still on the case.

The show hasn't aired in entirety yet, but so far, it's pretty good. Not "11.22.63" good, but it's entertaining. That Stephen King sure can write a good yarn. The series is a cat-and-mouse type thing, where you see perspectives of both the hero and the villain. The villain has a decent and incestuous storyline, but Brendon Gleeson is making this show worth watching. His storyline isn't particularly great, but he's always a fun actor to watch. Apparently, Stephen King wrote the story with him in mind for the part. Cool stuff.

I just saw 'Amityville: The Awakening'.

My waiting time is over. I finally saw it last week! And I have to say that I absolutely loved it.

What's it about? In 1974, 'he' murdered his entire family as they slept in a haunted house, in Amityville, but 40 years later, a single mother that moves her three children into that the same house.

This movie is terrific, crazy and scary with some creepy moments. But yet, it's a lot of fun to watch. It has great jump scares! I found the twists crazy.

One thing in this movie made me surprise is that they showed the actual Amityville DVDs (the original, Amityville II: The Possession and the remake) and I loved how they showed it. They said new versions are boring, so they picked the original to watch and some of the characters watched it on TV. ๐Ÿ˜„

Let's talk about the characters:
Bella Thorne gave a likable character, good acting and she showed her emotional moments. She wasn't dumb, neither annoying. She seemed awesome when she was fighting with the demon in the last scene.

Jennifer Jason Leigh gives a creepy performance. She played really crazy mother who already knew about the 'Amityville Horror' murders and she thought everything would be better in a possessed house in Amityville, but she was also good. She did a good job.

Cameron Monaghan was really creepy as looking. He was easily the best and creepiest part of the movie.

The little girl is nothing special like Chloe Moretz was.

It's not for everyone, but if you like the remake, Rob Zombie's remake, The Possession, etc. you definitely should to see it. Since you need a time for this movie to release. It's just an entertaining film!

I hate people...

A few days ago, some dumb bitch crashed into my sister's van and totaled the fucking thing, almost killing my 4 month old nephew and sending my sending my sister to the hospital with a broken sternum. Now, that spoiled teenage brat who hit her (who was entirely happy-go-lucky at the crime scene, by the way) is faking injuries and trying to sue the sis, when her car was virtually undamaged. Why do people like this even exist?

๐Ÿ˜ž

BLAH. I had to vent. Money's gonna be a little tighter lately, but thank God alcohol is cheap. (Nephew is miraculously unharmed though)

Review: They Have Changed Their Face (1971)

image
They Have Changed Their Face is perhaps the most innovating and original take on the Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. In this intoxicating allegory on capitalism, they substituted the well- trodden Dracula with a successful and powerful businessman, Giovanni Nosferatu, the head of a massive corporation, who invites a low- ranking employee to, from what appears on the exterior as an old dilapidated villa. As soon as he arrives in the locality - things are not quite what they seem. He soon finds the locale nearly deserted with the heavy fog enveloping everything in sight. He tries to ask the few locals for directions but they are behaving most peculiarly, non-compliant and almost in a trance. That should have been a deterrent! Before entering the villa, he meets a young attractive woman. She promptly changes her outward behavior from a free-spirit to a tense and overly manner. The employee eventually comes to the conclusion to himself that, Giovanni Nosferatu, is a vampire.

image There are many strange and intriguing details in the film such as the villa, from the exterior, appears as an old dilapidated villa that is crumbling with ancient grounds to a highly modernistic interior, well-stocked with apparatuses that vents out adverts for the products that his corporation sells. From the intimidating band of cars that patrol the grounds of the villa that kills anyone who is trespassing to marketing of illicit products like "domestic LSD" or the nursery offering predetermined career paths for babies. It is a very well-made and stylish horror that throws around references to Godard, Fellini and Bergman. I'm sold!

image It is an obvious allegory to capitalism, with the most affluent portrayed as "vampires" who appear to feed off consumerism, hence why They Have Changed Their Face. It is a biting and satirical moody piece, but above all, it is really good and at just 285 votes-it is shockingly unknown to the masses. If this was made in 2017 we would all be saying it was way ahead of its time, but it was in fact made in 1971! They Have Changed Their Face is a thoroughly original and intelligent slice of Italian horror. My vote is a 9.

IMDB Goofs

Remember how back in the day when submitting goofs it usually took a few days at least for them to show up? Well, now they are instantaneous. Apparently they believe anything people post now.
I'm tempted to create a dummy account and post something blatantly false just to see if it instantly is posted, and how long it takes to come down.

Lake Mungo (2008)

Has anyone watched this? The "scene" that the movie culminates to, was seriously chilling material.

Jeepers Creepers 3 One Night Only (Tonight)

I'll admit it, I'm a fan of the Jeepers Creepers movies. Yes, I'm aware of the controversy surrounding the director Victor Salva. He's a scumbag sure, but I still enjoy his movies.

I have been looking forward to part 3 of the Creeper movies for a very long time, and now I hear that it's playing in theaters for one night only (which is scheduled for tonight September 26th) due to people threatening to protest the movie. So sick of people ruining things.

Does knowing a director has a history like this stop you from viewing their movies? Also does anyone know if this will be available anywhere else to watch after tonight?

Firestarter (1984), and recurring actors in Stephen King works

Here's another FTV for me this year, because Stephen King has so goddamn many movies out there, I still haven't even seen them all. Firestarter is a government experiment gone wrong, and those trying to get away from those damn government agents that are always trying to make a weapon out of everything.

Mark L. Lester was a busy man in the early 80s with Class of 1984, Firestarter, and Commando. Beyond the early 90s, I guess his career turned to shit with obscure titles no one's heard of.

What surprised me about this movie was the cast. There's quite a few names in there, because every big actor has worked on a King story at some point or another... and some even worked on several King stories!

Who are some actors that have been in more than 1 Stephen King film or series?

Drew Barrymore - Firestarter, Cat's Eye
Ed Harris - Creepshow, Needful Things
Jeffrey DeMunn - The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Mist
John Cusack AND Samuel L. Jackson - 1408, Cell
Kathy Bates - Misery, Dolores Claiborne
Martin Sheen - The Dead Zone, Firestarter
Morgan Freeman - The Shawshank Redemption, Dreamcatcher
Ron Perlman - Sleepwalkers, Desperation
Timothy Hutton - The Dark Half, Secret Window
Tom Jane - Dreamcatcher, The Mist, 1922
Tom Skeritt - The Dead Zone, Desperation
William Sadler - The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile

Am I missing any recurring actors?

I know that everyone has already moved on to the exciting world of the Horror Challenge - who here doesn't feel their blood rushing faster as soon as October 1st rolls around every year? - but here's the final standings for our first ever Sci/Fi/Fantasy Challenge at TE.

By Day 2, I am sure there was no doubt in anyone's mind who the winner would be - and they were absolutely right. Onyx launched her rocket hard and fast and kept up a stellar pace all the way to the final landing. The only suspense was in "Who's on Second?" Well, here's how it shook out:

Onyx: 11,329 (!!!)
Troma: 7969
Ballz: 7805
Bapho: 6075
beatnik: 5320
Foz: 5144
Box: 3482
Zomb: 2271
peeps: 2124
Johan: 1887
Gymno: 1737
India: 1554
Wank: 1015
zed: 357

So, Onyx gets the Golden Ziggy and Troma successfully wards off Ballz challenge for second. Congrats to all who joined in (where were you smerd?) and looking forward to Hoorrrroarrr, turkeys and beyond!

Thanks also to my co-conspirator, Foz. He delivered weekly recaps that fogged my brain nicely with the sharpness of well-honed stats and Cosellish psycho-babble. We will be back next year, same Trash Epics time, same Trash Epics channel to co-host the next edition of this challenge.
