The Soapbox » Is Meat okay?
Sun, Nov 15, 2009 @ 2:17pm

Has anybody heard from Meat? I've been by the shop a few times and haven't seen him around. I know it's been closed, but I figured somebody would have seen him by now.

He loved those girls. I don't think you just lose two people you cared about like that and walk away from it unchanged. Part of him probably died that night too.

Yeah. Brackett confirmed it. He was rightfully pissed the fuck off about the whole thing.

They found him outside some shack near the woods. Apparently Laurie was there too. And Sam Loomis. There were cops and helicopters all over the place.

They didn't think it through. Probably didn't think these movies would make so much money. The first one feels like it was made as a standalone movie, and then they had to keep reverse-engineering the mythology because people wanted another one every October.

News flash: all movies are pretend.

The problem is October never looks this seasonal. Every time I see how autumnal movies make Halloween look, I get disappointed because Halloween is nowhere near as pretty. Where are the orange leaves and perfect little pumpkins everywhere?

Thought the cover looked cool so I bought it. Awesome throwback. Doesn't feel like a modern horror movie pretending to be old-school either. The whole thing looks like it could've been made in the early 80s.

That's what I liked about it. You spend the whole movie waiting for the historical outcome you're familiar with, then Tarantino basically says fuck it and writes his own version. Once you realize that's what he's doing, it makes the whole thing more fun.

I kept thinking it was going to turn into a straight-up Halo movie once the mech suit showed up. Apparently Blomkamp did a bunch of Halo stuff before this fell apart, so you can definitely see where some of the ideas came from.

What I don't understand is the timeline. How is Gambit supposed to fall in love with Rogue if he's already like thirty years older than her? Unless they're just going to ignore that whenever they eventually get around to it.

The whole movie does a good job of making him this miserable racist asshole while still showing why the neighborhood kids start looking up to him.

The ending reminded me of this old Clint Eastwood movie called Honkytonk Man. Different kind of story, but there's a similar plot thread about him being sick and how he handles it.

Fuck off. Jane was the best, but Stevenson is probably closer to the comic version. He's got the physicality for it.

I also liked that they didn't invent some random new villain and stick the movie in Tampa or wherever the hell the last one was set. Jigsaw was cheesy as hell, but his origin was disgusting enough to make him memorable.

Isaac Hayes died during production. I'm sure they had more in mind for him, but it would be worse to recast him or cut him out entirely. He seemed like a cool dude. RIP Chef.

He was pretty gullible about the whole clone thing. I liked how seriously he took it, too. Everyone else is looking at him like he's completely insane and he's just like, "Yep, this is probably happening."

If anybody sees a copy in the store, hide it for me. Then tell me where you hid it. Don't be a dick like that one guy who specifically bought a movie just because someone else said he wanted it.

Anybody have a copy of Eraserhead?

Weird black and white David Lynch movie. Guy's hair is like an eraser or something. I've been trying to track down a copy for a while.

They're both crime dramas about corrupt cops. They both started in 2002, and they're both ending this year. Both have cops who are supposed to be the good guys but spend half their time doing shady shit, investigations that go way over everybody's heads, and enough paperwork to make you hate the government.
