Movies » Trying to find info on an old movie
Mon, Feb 04, 2008 @ 3:23pm

I saw this movie years ago about this oriental dude in a paper mask who was screwing a lot of women. Then after a while, the women turn up dead. It started out like a porno, but then it turned into this weird mystery horror nonsense. Pretty amateur, but kind of nightmarish. For the life of me, I can't find any info about it online. Anyone know wtf I'm talking about?

Burma. Third-world country in Asia. Missionaries go in trying to help people, the military regime imprisons them, and Rambo gets dragged into it. Then he starts ripping people's throats out and blowing them into bloody chunks.

It is basically Stallone's answer to the question, "How much violence can we put in a Rambo movie?" Apparently the answer was "all of it."

Saw this yesterday. Holy fuck. I wasn't expecting much beyond Stallone nostalgia, but this thing is brutal. Doesn't feel like one of those cheesy 80s sequels at all. The violence is almost uncomfortable because it feels like something that could actually happen in a place like this with the way things are over there. Stallone went all-in on making it nasty.

So basically the same dumb shit they were making in the 80s. Nice.

Isn't Kane Hodder the guy who played Jason? And isn't the killer supposed to be a Jason knock-off?

Saw it. Wish I didn't. The new guy being a Jigsaw disciple kind of defeats the whole thing when his motivation is basically "I want to keep doing this because Jigsaw did it."

We got some diversity here. I like it. I love the 80s stuff myself. Elm Street, Hellraiser, Killer Klowns... it's all so vivid with the perfect blend of camp and creepy.

But there are enough layers to make it psychological. The parents are problematic, and I mean that beyond the obvious backstory. Just think about it. They're separated, neglectful, fixated on work, or alcoholics. The kids essentially don't have parents, and this causes them to manifest psychological delusions. The end even insinuates that it was all in their mind, even if the sequels throw that idea out the window. So yeah... not inherently fantasy if you're looking at the first movie alone. And it was inspired by true events.

Maybe this movie knows something we don't.

Hopefully they fast-track a sequel. I loved that end credits scene. You basically know what's going to happen, but you still smile when it does. That's how you know these guys made something special.

Really fucking clever. And more importantly, hilarious. It's a hard balance, but they pulled it off.

They're not good enough for theaters. But apparently they're good enough for suckers to buy.
