Exactly. That's why I'm qualified to tell you about it.
Music » Woodstock 40th Anniversary

I wasn't at the original Woodstock. I was there in spirit, which is basically the same thing if you had enough weed.

I did go to Woodstock '99, though. That was a completely different experience. I remember driving out there expecting peace, love, music, and maybe some naked hippies. Instead it was 100 degrees, everybody was covered in dirt, the water cost more than the records I was selling that week, and every guy there looked like he was about to start a fight in a parking lot.

At one point I watched two guys argue over a bottle of water while Limp Bizkit was playing. Then Fred Durst starts talking about breaking shit and the entire crowd goes insane. That's when I realized Woodstock had officially become the exact opposite of Woodstock.

By the end of the weekend I had sunburn, a dead car battery, and a shirt that smelled like somebody else's beer. Great music festival. Very spiritual.

And that's the problem. The government is manipulating you and it doesn't phase you because it's done with subtlety. Yeah, I know you don't care. You wear your apathy like a badge of pride. You keep pumping money into the corporate machine, feeding these egos and giving power to these deep state psychopaths thinking it doesn't affect you, but twenty years from now when the fascists have everybody convinced that the other guys are Nazis, don't say I didn't warn you.

If everybody laughs, that means racism is dead. Suddenly, nobody cares if he's the first black president or not, and that ruins his chances. Then the platform ramps up the social inequity, the country is divided, and suddenly this guy comes in to "fix" a system that isn't broken by re-introducing racial injustices under the pretense that he's unifying the country. It's disgusting, and completely typical.

Nobody is rioting because Hollywood hasn't told them to. It's a social experiment before the Obama administration kicks in to gauge just how racist America actually is so they can adjust their campaign to it.

Hey, all stuff is tested before sale, and it worked. If it's broken, you probably fucked it up to cover for your bad tastes.
The Soapbox » YOU CAN MODERATE MY ASS
Sun, Nov 18, 2007 @ 7:18pm

So apparently we're talking about moderation now.

I don't like it.

The whole point of having a place where people can talk is that you let people fucking talk. You don't start putting everything into little boxes because somebody decided a particular subject belongs somewhere else.

First it's "move the coffee thread." Then it's "delete the troll topic." Then somebody decides they don't like what you're saying, so suddenly that's a problem too.

That's how censorship starts.

Everybody thinks they're reasonable when they're doing it. It's always for some greater good. It's always about keeping things organized or protecting somebody or making the community better. Then you get a bunch of liberal yahoos deciding what people are allowed to say and suddenly nobody has any freedom left.

You think I'm exaggerating? Look at history. The Nazis didn't wake up one morning and say, "Hey, let's be the Nazi party." You start taking away little freedoms and deciding who gets to speak and what they're allowed to say, and eventually you wind up with people telling you what you're allowed to think.

People aren't fucking filing cabinets. You can't put everybody in a box.

If somebody wants to talk about coffee in the music board, let them talk about coffee in the music board.
