Anybody else feel like we're living in a dystopian nightmare right now? Haddonfield doesn't even feel like home anymore. It feels like a plague swept through here and we're all just stuck here after the fact, trying to pretend it's still the same place.

How is this possible? And why the hell was Loomis there? I thought that whole thing was over.

A guy and his wife lose their kid in an accident, so they go off to this isolated place somewhere in Europe to try to deal with their grief. She starts losing her mind and it turns into this really weird psychological horror movie with a bunch of religious symbolism. Very artsy, very unsettling. Definitely not a traditional horror movie.

That's basically the Saw formula now. New group of people, new traps, old footage of Jigsaw explaining that everything is their fault somehow. Then everybody argues about which trap was the worst one.

Never been a fan of ghost stuff. It's always a lot of nothing pretending to be something. A door moves, somebody hears a noise, lights flicker, everybody freaks out. Give me something I can actually see.

What are you talking about? It was a subverted take on Little Red Riding Hood. That's why the whole thing is supposed to feel familiar before it turns into something else.

Kinda slow, but it oozes with atmosphere. The house feels wrong before anything really happens. Great vibe for October.

The interesting thing is that the aliens aren't even particularly sympathetic at first. They're scavengers, they're violent, they're disgusting, and then you realize that we're putting them in a concentration camp and experimenting on them. Makes the whole thing a little uncomfortable.

Medical condition. She has a disorder that makes her look much younger than she actually is. Basically she's an adult that looks like a child, which is why she's able to fool everyone for so long.

He also had an abusive father who deprived him of a lot of his childhood. He genuinely seemed to like being around kids because they had a positive way of looking at things that he felt he'd missed growing up. Doesn't make every decision he made easy to understand, but his childhood probably had something to do with it.

Also, if you liked Rorschach in the movie, the comic is absolutely worth reading. You get much more of his journal and his perspective, which makes him even more unsettling. Don't expect it to be a quick superhero read, though. It's dense.

Again, ambiguity. Either she told her there's nothing on the other side, in which case she realizes her entire life's work was a waste and kills herself, or she told her there is something on the other side, in which case she's anxious to get there and find out for herself. The movie deliberately refuses to give you the answer.

Yeah, it was all slimy like it had been on there for a long time and was partially embedded in her skull. Shudders. That movie is really good at making the torture feel physical without necessarily showing you every second of it.

Not sure I actually liked it, but I was definitely grossed out by it. Can't complain about a slasher doing its job, I guess.

Like they said in the last thread, it's all politics. These guys paid someone off, and poof. Hall of fame. The more I see shit like this transpiring willy-nilly, the more I start to wonder what else Meat is right about.

The internet is a deep rabbit hole, and I'm searching for the truth.

The concept goes back farther than you'd probably expect. There are references to anonymous sexual encounters through openings or partitions in various historical accounts, although the exact origins of the modern "glory hole" are pretty murky. The term itself is relatively recent compared to the practice.

There are some obvious practical concerns with the setup. If the partition is poorly constructed, you've got splinters, sharp edges, and unstable walls, which can lead to moderate to severe penile damage, and in rare cases, castration. Privacy is another concern. You'd think that would be the first thing anyone considers, but apparently not.

There's also an interesting psychological component to the whole thing. The anonymity is part of the appeal, because you don't necessarily know who's on the other side. Some people apparently find that easier than a face-to-face encounter. And, for the record, the whole "it isn't gay if you can't see the other guy" argument is obviously just people trying to make themselves feel better about what they're doing. They're definitely gay, because it's always going to be a dude on the other side.
