Ma, you crazy bitch!

Ma (2019) is a new horror movie by Blumhouse, because if a movie comes out theatrically, there's a good chance it's made by Blumhouse. They've become a rather solid company these days, and they yield generally positive results, IMO.

Teens need to party, and a woman lends them her basement. However, this woman is mentally unbalanced for generic reasons you've all seen before, and voila! There's a premise to abide by.

Again, it's nothing you guys haven't seen before. Bullies made her psycho and it's only a matter of how far she goes with it. Fortunately, the performances are pretty good, so you can bear with, and there are a few decent scenes of "horror". You might even get a good squirm out of them, too.

Not bad.

Literary Challenge

May 1st- May 31st

Hey guys, this month the challenge will be a literary challenge. This means that any movie based on a novel, novella, poems and short story will count. Graphic Novels, and Comic Books will not count, but they will be covered in a different month.

The book must be the basis of the movie, and not the other way around. Books spawning from movies, like Star Wars, will not count.

There will be several ways you can earn points
**1 point if the movie is based on a book
1 point if it is a First Time Viewing
1 point if the author Cameos in the movie
1 point if the author is a screenwriter for the movie
1 point if the author directs the movie
A bonus point if the author Cameos, Screen writes, and directs the movie**

This challenge will also have trifecta points:
**Three movies based on books by the same author
Three movies in the same series
Three movies of books you have read**

Movies can only be counted for one trifecta and must be watched three movies in a row.
Double and triple trifectas are in effect but can be completed at a later time. It does not have to be right after the first trifecta
**Single Trifecta: 3 points
Double Trifecta: 6 Points
Triple Trifecta: 9 points.**

At the end of the challenge:
1 point per movie if you have read the book.
A book may only be counted for one bonus point at the end of the challenge. For example, Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2 will only count as one point, since it is only one book.

Grab your spots guys! And have fun!

Bully - Larry Clark's True Story of High School Revenge

Loosely based on a true story set in 1993, the book was written in 1998, and the movie came out in 2001. As most of you know, Larry Clark movies often feature delinquent youths as the main characters, and these ones are the worst, and I mean that in a narratively sound manner. The acting in this movie is wonderful, and so is the cast. There are a lot of recognizable names, and it's all about the performances.

Brad Renfro is Marty, the surfer stoner who is often abused by his "best friend" Bobby, played by Nick Stahl as a closet homosexual who uses Marty as a punching bag for his sexually frustrated insecurities.

Rachel Miner plays Lisa, Marty's new girlfriend who is clearly fucked in the head. She starts the whole scheme and even gets off to the idea of murdering somebody.

Bijou Phillips plays her kinky friend Ali, an irresponsible young woman who lets her parents raise her baby son while she goes off to bang all sorts of young guys, such as Donny, played by Michael Pitt as the sexy and dumb stoner dude who gets reeled into this for no other reason than his girlfriend asking him to help.

Kelli Garner plays Heather, another damaged youth who joins in for the fuck of it. Daniel Franzese (who is in a handful of my favorite movies) plays Lisa's big brother Derek who reluctantly gets involved in his sister's defense.

And finally, we have that McLovin looking motherfucker from "Kids" Leo Fitzpatrick, who plays another guy named Derek, who claims to be a hitman. Larry Clark himself plays this Derek's dad, and on a funny side note, some kid in that family looks like a young Ron Perlman, almost hilariously so.

The rebelious teenage recklessness never ends. This movie has sex, drug use, masturbation, homo lovin', rape, and brutality. It's raw, and these characters are real. I really love movies like this. Movies that are dark character studies of damaged young minds pushed into dire circumstances.

At the end, it tells you what fate had fallen upon our protagonistsantagonists, and you can spoil that for yourselves here:

Damn good movie. I've been meaning to watch more Larry Clark movies for years now, as I've only see "Kids" and "Ken Park", but I loved all of them. They're a little hard to come by, but I need to find them.

Troma movies

I would guess that the majority of people here are fans of the Troma movies... And I would like to think that I am open-minded when it comes to horror..

I have seen around six of these movies to date recently - having not seen a single one in my life.. and I have to admit, and I don't want to offend anyone here - but they really are not very good, in my opinion.. they can be childishly silly and immature..

I know they completely conflict with my tastes, but is there anyone here who is not a fan of these movies?

Horror movie loners?

Off the top of my head Martin 1978 would be. I can't think of any more, surely there must me some more. What other horror movie loners are there?

Deja Vu is Epic Trash

41 years after the original "I Spit on Your Grave", Camille Keaton returns as Jennifer Hills to pass the torch over to her character's daughter Christy, so she too can be raped and get revenge, by the descendants of the original film's antagonists.

In 2010, we were given a brutal, gritty remake of the original that featured some of the gnarliest kills I've seen in any movie. It was a fucking great remake. One of the best. It went on to spawn two decent sequels, and then it was announced that we would be getting a "true" sequel to the original, by the same director. Interesting, right? Well, not quite...

Deja Vu is epic in the sense of it being long. Very long. This movie is 2 and a half hours, with some very drawn out scenes of exposition that we definitely don't need, but they're there anyway. The movie could have been an hour shorter and say all the same things.

Our cast here is filled with bad actors who aren't intimidating in the least. In fact, they're flat out stupid. Dumb as fuck, if you will. You know it's bad when one of the better actors is the retarded old man who kind of looks like Michael Berryman. Then, we have that raggedy long-haired fucker who overacts the living hell out of any scene he's in. Too expressive, and too scrawny to pose any real threat. Even Camille Keaton doesn't seem like she knows how to act anymore. The new girl does okay, but the execution leaves a LOT to be desired.

One thing that this film does with its excessive runtime is explain things. Over and over again. They drill it into your head and show a lot of flashbacks to a better film, as if the audience is too dumb to put the pieces together themselves, when the only people who are watching this turkey are fans of the original, and they already get it.

This film lacks the brutality of any of the films that came before it, and the rape scene is much shorter and very tame. The revenge is still quite necessary though, because the characters are so pathetic. As necessary as this revenge is, it's highly unsatisfying.

The movie tries to have a message about the futility of revenge, but it comes off as a bit preachy. There are forced religious overtones, and not enough grueling horror for them to mean anything. Not the worst movie ever, but far from anything you'd expect from the creative team of the original video nasty.

2010 remake > 1978 original > 2013 part 2 > 2015 part 3 > I Spit Chew on Your Grave > Deja Vu

Si vis pacem, para bellum! John Wick Chapter 3

John Wick Chapter 3 was cool as hell. It picks up right after the second film's daunting ending, where it's also revealed that Part 2 takes place within a week of part 1. So in that week, John Wick has killed sooooo many people, and he barely has any time to catch a breath because everyone is still out to get him.

Don't these fuckers ever learn? You can't kill the bogeyman!

This movie had the best fight scenes in the entire series. The violence is cranked up even higher, and my God, was it a fun ride! Some of these fights had me in awe, and the choreography is incredible. I don't know how they can coordinate this stuff as well as they do, but they do it. Especially in the scenes where he has to fight multiple people. There are knives flying, a 7 foot giant fight, motorcycle swordfights, ninjas, vicious dogs maiming people's balls, and finally... villains that actually put up a fight.

Mark Dacascos plays a ninja who yearns to kill John Wick, but is also a big fan of him. If anyone remembers the 90s, this guy played Eric Draven in the The Crow tv series. He had a decent likeness. He's the only guy who can last in a melee fight with John Wick.

Also, the movie was a little funnier than the last two. Mostly because some of the kills are so fucked up, you just have to laugh. It definitely satisfied my bloodlust, and if you haven't heard already... Part 4 is on the way.
