#WolfMan 2025

I'll preface this by saying I really liked Leigh Whannell's last couple of films, Invisible Man and Upgrade. I was hopeful that he'd keep up the trend and make another good Universal Monster flick, because every time they try to reboot those old classics, they fail miserably. I'm looking at you, Dark Universe!

Our story begins with a kid on a hunting trip with his irritable dad, who is obsessive about a dangerous creature in the woods. Years later, the kid is grown up with his own family and heads back to that old Oregon forest after dad dies, and shit goes sideways due to our hairy antagonist.

The film appears well-crafted. It checks all the boxes, yet it doesn't really do anything for me. Remember when they revealed the wolf man's design for that Universal horror nights? Fortunately, the creature didn't look that bad, but again... something about this movie is just vastly empty and underwhelming. Christopher Abbott isn't compelling, Julia Garner is weak sauce, and by the time it's over, I'm already off to something else and I wont think twice about it.

Is it just me, or are werewolves boring as shit?
