Trump was recently heard telling a reporter "you can't have guns, you can't walk in with guns". He is of course referring to the shooting of Alex Pretti and the fact that he was, legally I might add, carrying a gun when he was shot. Except we all know, plain as day, that he was disarmed by the ICE agents before he was shot. Trump knows ICE are in a bit of hot water over this. Two of the agents have been put on leave and he's apparently trying to de-escalate the situation in Minneapolis by sending in the "border tsar". But what does he really mean by "you can't have guns"? Does he really mean liberals, like Pretti, should not be allowed to carry guns but it's probably perfectly okay for conservatives to carry guns? Or he is just having a reflective moment about about gun control in America and he's speaking out loud? Of course he's never said that after any mass shooting, in a school or something. Either way, he's upset the NRA, who are on the side of Pretti. I swear Trump has no ideologies about anything much, he'll just say what he thinks is right at the time or whatever fits the narrative he's going with, even if it contradicts something that is well known, i.e. the 2nd Amendment allows all Americans to own and carry guns. So um, yeah you can have them..

Basically this is Trump's state of mind:

Pretti is shot by ICE - Gets Noem to again go with the "must be a domestic terrorist" rhetoric. However, video footage definitely does not favour ICE this time, so he listens to other Republicans, decides to "de-escalate" and sends in the Border Tsar. Admits that Pretti didn't deserve to die but he was carring a gun so it was, kind of, justified? Remembers there is something called the 2nd Amendment, but still goes with the "you can't carry guns" narrative because he doesn't know how to else to make ICE come out looking OK in this.

Here's the thing. Why doesn't Trump just come out and say, look, this ICE agent might have fucked up. People can make mistakes in the heat of the moment (or however he wants to spin it) but that it's being investigated internally as they are being placed on leave. Hell, he might even gain a bit of respect from some on the left. But he can't and won't do that, will he...
