#TheRunningMan (2025)

Edgar Wright brings us a new take on this Richard Bachman Stephen King story. The 1987 Arnold flick is a lot of fun, and this new one pays tribute to it in a few ways. The logo, a great Arnold reference, and the nature and aesthetics of the gameshow are all there. Glen Powell does a good job as Ben Richards, an honest worker who agrees to do the show to save his sick daughter, and Josh "I'm in every movie these days" Brolin plays Killian, the immoral gameshow showrunner.

There are plenty of differences, but a few similar beats. I'm guessing this is probably closer to the book, but who knows or cares. They're both fun movies, but an Arnold movie always wins for nostalgia and the fact that I've seen it a dozen times and it's shorter. Instead of a single outing for survival in a set playground, the runner needs to make it to 30 days wherever the hell he get to. This allows a lot of dystopian future tech like drones and autopilots, and incentives for commoners and runners alike.

There are worse ways to kill 2 hours. Worth at least one watch.
