Orozco the Embalmer

An embalmer is a person who temporarily preserves and beautifies a corpse so that it may be ready for a funeral procession. It is a job I don't think I could ever handle. Despite my love for extreme horror, I am very aware of the differences between what is real and what is fake. I can watch a brutal horror movie without batting an eyelid, but watching a read dead corpse unsettles me. Apart from the natural squeamish reaction to the autopsies and the handling of a dead body, I think I would be overcome with sadness to see what's left of a person with no life left in them. But it is a job that needs to be done, for both hygienic purposes often cultural ones too, and much respect to those who perform this job with much care and attention.

image

This documentary shows the everyday life of Froilan Orozco, an embalmer working in the poor areas of Columbia. This area is filled with violence and rubbish, human life is wasted every day. Where poverty is high, there is a general feeling of hopelessness. But despite it all, Orozco worked everyday, and during his lifetime, embalmed more than 50,000 corpses for an exceptionally cheap price. He cared more about the corpses he was preparing then about his own health. Orozco was an exceptional man.

I can't imagine many jumping the gun to watch this movie. It's harsh, it's unflinching, it's depressing. It's Six Feet Under, in the most harsh and unforgiving area ever. The camera does not shy away from the practise of embalming, it shows it in full detail again and again, all the while, listening to the wisdom's of Orozco as he talks about his job, life and death. Those who struggle with the harsh realities of life will no doubt struggle watching this movie. But, it's a movie which I highly recommend. This film is not exploitative, it's honest film making. You watch this movie for Orozco. It's his compassion and care for his work that makes this very depressing movie, almost seem beautiful. An old man putting as much care as he can into death, it's really quite touching. No doubt there are many people who cut corners in this type of field, and doesn't that thought just make you sick to your stomache. The movie Aftermath shows an extreme example as such. But a man like Orozco really inspires such admiration. He is the reason to watch this documentary. He brings a certain optimism to an incredibly bleak and depressing reality.

image

It's hard to recommend this to anyone, but it is a flick that I recommend just the same. Cinema doesn't get more powerful than this. A man like Orozco is truly one of a kind. I hope I am treated with as much respect after death as those he cared for. I take my hat off to you, Orozco. May you forever be remembered.

The enigma that is Lucifer Valentine

Back in 2006, Slaughtered Vomit Dolls finally hit the shelves as Lucifer Valentines debut was finally released. The cover art was childish, but freaky, like something an infant would draw to express that they were being abused. It's simplistic design, along with the fucked up title was enough to intrigue me. But I didn't watch it. I was too scared.

This in itself should cue you into the sort of bloke that Lucifer Valentine is. He's scary. Like really scary. As far as I can tell, his identity has been kept secret from the internet. No one knows what he looks like, and the few that have worked with him sure as hell aren't telling. So I'm going to go ahead and assume for argument sake, that Valentine looks like this.

image

In actuality, he probably looks like this.

image

But I'm gonna keep picturing the first picture till he shows his face....

Anyways, not only is his appearance a secret, so is his real name. Surely he doesn't expect us all to believe his parents just happened to call him Lucifer Valentine. Then again, if I ever turned to directing, I'd probably use an offensive pseudonym too, like Holly Cost, or Taylor Swift.

More interesting than this man's identify, is his upbringing. According to interviews, Valentine was raised by Satanists. Hmmm, perhaps Lucifer Valentine IS his real name. Then again he also apparently had a sister called Cinderella. Whom he had an incestuous relationship with???
At this point, I'm gonna stop, no need to keep repeating internet rumours and what not. I have no idea how much of this stuff is true or not. What I do know is, this man is slowly improving in becoming a bona fide hardcore underground director.

image

Slaughtered Vomit Dolls (2006)
The first of the trilogy. According to imdb, it's a "gruesome tapestry of psychological manifestations of a nineteen year old bulimic runaway stripper-turned prostitute as she descends into a hellish pit of satanic nightmares and hallucinations". Imdb makes it sound more interesting than it is. If I'm to be completely honest, I hated this movie. I wanted to like it, but nah, sorry Valentine, I hated it. I did appreciate what you were trying to do, but the hallucinations were too tiresome. The dialogue, the imagery, the nonlinear plot, the vomit, oh god the vomit! It was all too much for me. Definitely one of the grossest movies I had ever seen, but was such a chore to sit through. Slowing down the footage to the point that the dialogue is inaudible doesn't really serve much purpose. The movie did look quite satanic, so it gets points for that, but I lost interest 10 mins in. And unfortunately, the lead Ameara Lavey wasn't really holding my interest either. The good news though, is for a first project, there is always room for improvement. And not only does Valentine improve upon SVD, he's knocks it out of the park.

image

ReGOREgitated Sacrifice (2008)
Much like SVD, this movie is nonlinear. Again, Ameara Lavey stars in this beauty, but she is joined by the creepy Soska sisters. I couldn't really tell you what the movie is about, being non linear and all, its comes across as random footage. I read lately that it had connections to supposed suicide of Valentines sister, though I cannot confirm that myself. What I can tell you, is Valentine incorporated several different filming techniques that paid off a great deal in this one. You can see he's experimenting and trying to figure out his approach as a director. His use of score and editing had improved greatly from number one. He was able to actually build atmosphere and generate fear, something that was completely devoid of SVD. Use of the camera also was creepy. Everything in this movie was creepy. As gross and disgusting as it is, it cannot be denied, it's scary. I mean really scary. It feels like the devil himself directed this movie. Where the first one just looked like a really bad music video on acid. Well done to the Soska sisters as well, as their presence only made the movie that much more creepy.

image

Naturally, you can also expect lots of vomit and other disgusting things, one including a spider.....I don't like spiders.... Curse you Valentine. But don't look for spoilers here, cos I won't give them. What I can promise you, is lots of fucked up images. You'll get plenty of that and more here.

image

Slow Torture Puke Chamber (2010)
Starring Hope Likens, the spot light is taken off of Ameara Lavey. This is one of the better moves from Valentine. Likens actually does a very decent job at being sympathetic. And gross. How she managed to puke blood is beyond me, but naturally it freaked me out quite a bit. There is also quite a bit of shocking content (well duh it's a Lucifer valentine flick) accompanied with blasphemous imagery and s&m shit. I believe Valentine tried to up the stakes from RG, unfortunately, some of what is filmed is so shocking and over the top, it comes across as a little silly. The baby and blender part in particular. Again, the non linear thing. If I had any lick of smarts, I could probably figure out these movies, but I need to be spoon fed. Which is why I'm staying as far away from Lars Von Trier as humanly possible.
While a slight step down from RG, it's still a massive improvement from SVDs. Likens did an excellent job with her monologues, and Valentine even made tribute to The Exorcist. Or wanted to up the ante. Probably the latter. In his attempts to end the trilogy with a bang, he instead ended it with a kinda interesting finish, but nothing too unique or special.

image

A Perfect Child of Satan (2012)
Now this! This is good shit! I mean really good shit! This right here, is proof that Valentine can make a fantastic LINEAR plot movie. Albeit, it's only short, but it's a short flick that beats RG in terms of sheer fear. You can only find this on the Vomit Gore Trilogy boxset, but believe me, it's toally worth it. A short flick on the dangers of internet dating, told totally in first person and shaky cam, we see the first half through the eyes of a girl getting ready to meet her online boyfriend, and the second half we see through his eyes, how the evening plays out. I'm sure you can guess what happens.
For those of you who hate vomit, you're in luck, there's none here. This one doesn't attempt to gross you out, it just attempts to disturb you. And that's why I loved it. Using similar techniques from RG, Valentine uses music and anticipation to build up tension to an incredible climax. And Chelsea Chainsaw gives an incredibly real and emotional performance. I give total props to both of them. This gives me great belief that Valentine is totally capable of now making a full feature with a linear plot, that will scare Chuck Norris shitless.

image

Valentine also made a documentary on drug use called Black Metal Veins. I haven't seen this one as of yet, but will be shortly. In the meantime, I anxiously await to see more of what Valentine has to offer. It is awesome seeing his projects grow and improve over time. He is learning, and could possibly become the most fucked up film maker around, if he wants to. Only time will tell. Bravo Valentine. Bravo.

Thankyou.

What's the deal with all these Trash Zones?

We've all come to this site and gotten bored with it, because of how aimlessly vague it is. Well not anymore, because now, we have purpose. Now, we have Trash Zones https://trashepics.com/sub/.

A lot of users had been interested in having their own corner of this website to specialize in a unique theme. I finally got crackin' and worked those in here. I've given them database support, which means they can be easily edited to suit your needs. I try to automate everything worthwhile on this site. The less I have to do to maintain it, the better. I'm a lazy man, so anyone running a zone will help me keep this site active.

Here's a bit of info on the recent influx of garbage zone-age:

The Ren Zone - Well, since I'm @Renzo, and I can't let everyone else have all the fun... I have a zone of my own. I'll just put boring news articles like this one in it. Posts are not exclusive to a single zone, and may appear in any number of zones. It all depends on the zone's criteria for what posts it should list. My zone just looks for posts tagged as #/httr/, so I just tag a post as #/httr/ and it will show up in my listing. Other than that, my zone is pretty useless.

The Halloween Zone - It used to be just about the film franchise, but god damnit... I like Halloween too much to limit it to a single mediocre horror series! Now, this zone will show ALL public posts that are posted under media titles that are tagged as #halloween. There are a lot of good Halloween titles out there, like Dark Night of the Scarecrow, Night of the Demons, Donnie Darko, House of 1000 Corpses, etc. It will also have a live countdown to next Halloween. I wish I could think of better gimmicks for it...

Obviously, @Tromafreak needed to run the Troma Zone. He's posting some good shit there, and it adding these shitty movies to our database of trashy movies, and it's wonderful. He reviews movies mostly. Since a bulk of Troma's movies are available for free on youtube, I advise he sets the featured youtube video to a different Troma movie every so often. This zone will show ALL public posts that are posted under media titles that are tagged as #troma.

Our slasher aficionado @slasherfan85 wanted a Slasher Zone, and I say hellz yeah. We all need a little more slashers in our diet, and as uninspired as it may be at times, it's still one of my favorite horror sub-genres. This zone will show ALL public posts that are posted under media titles tagged as #slasher.

When @AlcoholicNinja wanted to jump on the zone bandwagon, he got hard just thinking about the possibilities of what he could do with a Porno Zone. This is Trash Epics, right? This zone will show ALL public posts that are tagged as #porn. 😄

The Ball Zone is operated by @Ballz. Who would've figured? What many of you probably don't know (since he rarely graces us with his presence) is that he is putting all of his efforts into a novel he plans on selling. Since Ballz is my hangsta numba uno, I'm giving him a zone where he doesn't have to abide by any specific guidelines, but I figure it would be a good place for him to sell his novel. This zone will only show Ballz's public posts.

@Moffat wanted to talk about comics, so he has a zone... but he ain't doing anything with it yet. I don't know what posts to list, so right now, it just shows posts that posted under media titles tagged as #comic. At least I think he wanted the zone to be about comic movies...

And our sweet @Shaza wants to talk about foul, evil, dirty, dark, and depraved films in the Extreme Zone. Yeah, she looks nice, but she's into some sick shit. We need that on Trash Epics, because we need to cover all the basics of what good trash is all about. For now, this zone will show ALL public posts tagged as #extreme. Later on, when/if we get enough fitting titles in our media database, I may change it to show all posts that are posted under media tagged as #extreme. I don't know! @Shaza, you can add media titles to the database. Utilize this so you can update your featured media accordingly. The same goes for wiki pages.

And that's it so far. It'll be easy as hell to add more zones, should anyone come up with a legit idea. Now with these zones, I'm hoping the moderators of them will have fun with it, and try to come up with regular content for these zones. Have a weekly poll. Have a weekly movie that you recommend that everyone on the site see. And put the trailer as your featured video. Post lists about this stuff. Post achievements that are relevant to your cause. They can be for winning some kind of contest or game you might hold on your zone. Get creative. Because I'm even allowing you to style these zones with pure css, and script in pure javascript. Of course, I know you guys don't know fuck all about that, but it gives me good practice should we decide to work in some gimmicks into your zone.

August Underground Trilogy

Warning the following post contains images that might be deemed offensive. If you are easily offended, seriously, why are you here?

By this point, everyone has heard fo the infamous August Underground Trilogy. A decade ago, they were infamous and notorious, easily deranking the equally notorious Guinea Pig Series as the most fucked up pseudo snuff series to ever grace our depraved eyes. Now days, depraved and disturbing cinema can be found quite easily, especially because the internet is only a click away. Still, the effects of AU still hold up today, and even rewatches still get me cringing and squirming. I will never forget that it took me mutliple viewing to finally complete the series. There are some who view AU as boring and overhypered crap. And there are some that view is as real and utter horror. I'm in the latter camp.

image

Lets begin with number one. August Underground (2001). The one that started it all. Also imo, probably the most effective of the three. Filmed with shaky cam, this is as gritty and dark as they come. We follow two killers, one played by Fred Vogel (creator of the AU series, who might I add, is apparently an incredibly nice guy in real life), and an unknown peep who is holding the camera. I believe he was played by Allen Peters, (who also co wrote the movie.) Basically we watch these two go about their daily routine....and do horrible things to people. And that's it. You can imagine why people find it boring, cos watching a bunch of loud and obnoxious people going to a concert and bickering isn't stella entertainment. But I really struggled watching this, and here's why. It feels real. Really real. You know how everyone gave Charlie Sheen slack for thinking Flowers of Flesh and Blood was real? Well can you imagine if he saw this?! He would have damn shit himself! There is a reoccuring scene featuring a girl that's tired in the basement. If that doesn't get you moving around uncomfortably, I don't know what will. This movie feels like you've actually stumbled upon a killers home diary. It is as interesting as it is horrifying. And although the shaky cam is bad enough to give you a headache, the sheer effects (which are brilliant!) will make you feel sick to your stomache.

image

Right, so on to the sequel, August Undergound Mordum (2003). Where the first one was extreme, this one takes it up a notch, and fucks it bloody. You'll often see this on top disturbing lists, and it's there for a reason. While not as gritty and nihlistic as number one, it's like the makers brainstormed the most disturbing and taboo things they could do, and they put it all on camera. Everything from dead child rape, to castration, to incest. Peters is no longer a part of production, but he is replaced by Cristie Whiles and Michael Todd Schneider, who plays a part called Maggot. The style of film making is exactly the same, shaky cam, bad audio etc. Only now that Fred Vogel now has plenty of friends to join in the depravity, there is lots more arguing and screaming. It's quite nauseating. Still, props go to them for the effects (which are again, brilliant) and for making something even more fucked up then number one, and believe me, i didn't think that was possible. Though this one ended very abrutly, it's still a highly effective fake snuff movie.

image

Finally, number three, August Underground Penance (2007). This is often cited as the worst of the trilogy. I actually find that there is something in this one that the previous two lack. The characters are no longer one dimensional, sick killers. We almost see into their minds. You can see in the killers treatment of their victims, and hearing their monolgues, a possible key why they are doing this. I found this very interesting. Have a listen to Fred talking to the guy with the hammer. You'll see what I mean. Also look at how Fred and Cristy talk to each other, there is lots of keys to their mental mind, and why they are so evil.
Anyway, out of the three, this one looks the most polished, cos they finally upgraded their shaky cam to a more high tech one. It still looks realistic, but no longer as dark and gritty, which takes away the feel the first two had. Also, not much more can be done that hadn't already been donw already, so they were reaching for fucked up scenes. Still, there is a Christmas Invasion scene that is right up there with the most disturbing scenes you could see. And of course, the effects, again are amazing. I have nothing but praise when it comes to the effects of these movies. It's partly why they feel so real. They are just amazing. But of course, you also have lots of pointless scenes where the killers just walk around and be normal people. People only wanting to see fucked up stuff will be bored for certain portions of all these movies. To me it just feel all the more real. Oh and animal lovers stay away from part 3, you won't like it. Just saying.

image

All in all, these movies, while not fun to watch, are amazing pieces of cinema, and deserved to be seen by any extreme horror fanatic. Fred Vogel and his team of friends have created something truly memorable and as a horror fan, I salute him, and look forward to his future endervors. Thankyou.

Visitor Q (2001)

Trash Epics! Home of the trashiest and filthiest movies on the planet. And folks, they don't get much more filthy than Visitor Q. This one is positively revolting! Taboo ridden, boundary pushing, comic hilarity! One of Takashi Miik's more sicker films, this is the joys of Visitor Q.

image

The movie opens up with a question. "Have you ever done it with your dad?"
A lovely little opener that sets the tone for this particular shocker. If you weren't sure what you were in for, you should now.
We watch this young lady seduce her own father, who happens to be filming the naughty session for a documentary he's making (nice parenting there, dad). Of course this incestual act comes at a price, as the daughter so promptly suggests. The father soon seems to forget all about the camera, and things get very awkward very quickly, especially since the father finishes a little too quickly for the daughters tastes.
And there you have it, the first five minutes of Visitor Q and that's only the beginning. You think that's messed up, wait to you hear what else is in store.

You see, the mother of this family is a heroin junkie. She is also repeatedly beaten by her own son. The son is repeatedly bullied by classmates and the daughter is a whore who doesn't seem to mind rooting her own dad. The father of this... loving... family is always filming everything, including the abuse suffered by both the mother and the son, you know... for his documentary... and he seems quite pleased with the results. And you thought your family was bad!

So the movie revolves around a stranger who joins this dysfunctional family, and we see the day to day results. kinda like a mocumentary. Only it's actually good. This movie has everything. Sex, incest, sadism, whipping, lactating boobs, shit, necrophilia, murder, prostitution, rape, and with shaky cam, this makes quite the disturbing little film. It almost feels like your watching a documentary yourself, at times. Trust me, you'll be saying "WTF!" multiple times throughout.

But let me tell you something that could possibly make this movie even more disturbing.... it's pretty damn funny! I mean, not Monty Python funny, you would have to have a very dark sense of humour, but it's very possible to find this movie hilarious. There are certain scenes that I never though possible that I would laugh at... but Miike found a way. Yes this movie is comedic gold! I'd even go as far to say if you don't find this movie funny, you're obviously dead inside.

On a closing note, the ending is almost... beautiful. Dare I say it, this has one of the most touching family moment endings you may ever see....as sick as that might sound. I guess I just have a very twisted mind.

This movie is not for everyone. If you feel you might be easily offended, best give this one a skip. But then again, if you're on this site, you're not a pansy. You're a real man! Or real chick! And anything deemed offensive is considered awesome! You won't have to go looking very far. The amount of taboos broken in this one are unbelievable. If you are interested in the sick and twisted, and you're a fan of Takashi Miike, as well as wanting to see a very different kind of family film, then definitely check this one out!

Oh and uh... wanna know a secret..... It's on youtube. Wink wink nudge nudge;)

Found (2012)

I recently heard about this movie a few days ago. Slasherfan85 kindly mentioned this movie to have one messed up ending. Which was a sure fire signal to me that I might be interested in checking it out. And if that didn't sell me, than the fact that it's banned in my home country sure did. When will film classification boards learn, banning something isn't going to prevent people from seeing it, it's only going to entice them to see it more.

So what can I tell you about Found?
It's a low budget indi about a little boy called Marty who finds out that his brother is a serial killer, who likes to keep heads of black people in his closet. Naturally, things progressively get more intense for poor Marty until a disturbing climax. That's all I'm going to say, like with most movies, the least you know about a movie, the better.

Perhaps I'll start with the flaws first. This movie is certainly not perfect, there are some very shoddy acting scenes. No Oscar nominations here I'm afraid, but the acting is good enough for you to become invested in them, so the actors get the job done.
There is also some dodgy pacing issues throughout it, the movie could maybe have been 10 mins shorter, but again, it's not a major complaint, for the most part I enjoyed this one. The story was good, the main kid was easy to empathise with, and the build up was nice. The filmmakers spent a great deal of time trying to make this one out to become as emotional as possible. Giving the acting, it was actually a really decent effort. And on top of that, it was also a pretty messed up flick, so it gets big points for that. Despite the fact that most of the violence happens off screen, it still comes across as a very graphic movie. I assume the reasoning for this might have been budget issues, but it also may have worked to the movie's advantage with the "less is more" route. And during the few scenes where there is some bloody mayhem, it makes it all the more shocking.

I don't really think this movie was justified in being banned in Australia. I'm calling shenanigans on that cos I've seen far more graphic stuff. Perhaps it was the ending that took things too far. In any case, I wanted to have this movie on dvd, and Australia won't let me. But as you can see, banning a movie isn't anywhere near as effective as it used to be. I love the internet.

For a flawed film, I do applaud the filmmakers for making an interesting and fvcked up flick. If you like to check out underrated indi gems, then you might be pleasantly surprised with this one. If you can forgive the acting and pacing issues, it's really quite a disturbing movie.

8/10

Murder-Set-Pieces (2004)

Who here has seen Murder Set Pieces? Chances are you probably think it sucks. I don't know why, that's just what the general populace seems to think. I happen to really like it, and I stand by that notion in this very obvious minority. Well, not really like it, I find it somewhat entertaining at least. Certainly not as bad as most people seem to think. Sure the director might be an absolute and total manipulative douchebag, but lets not compare the artist to the artwork. 😉

First and foremost, I get the hate this one gets. The director, Nick Palumbo is a tool! Selflessly advertising his material, bad mouthing and ripping off other movies, even gloating about hurting/scaring the actresses involved, the guy comes across as a real sleazefest! The commentary reveals just how big this guy's egoreally is. One might normally find using random 9/11 footage to be a tad distasteful, but not Palumbo, he's just getting started!

But... I'm more than willing to look past that. Lets get to the material!

Palumbo has called this movie the sickest thing you'll ever see! Is it? Hmmm, not really. It's sick, for certain. Mean spirited? Most definitely, with some very hard to watch scenes. But I've seen worse. Sorry Palumbo, babe. I'm not convinced.

We watch this German photographer.... this guy!

Mmmmm

......Oh sorry, I got distracted.

So we have this German photographer, who likes to meet women, take photos of them, rape them, kill them, eat them, workout and repeat. That's pretty much it, don't expect anything special here. Most normal people would see that there is something seriously wrong with this character. At a dinner with his girlfriend, he promptly tells his girlfriend's baby sister in his German accent that;
"Women suck blood out of men everyday. But at the end of every month.... it leaks out".
Hehehe, smooth. I will like to add at this point that the girlfriend see's nothing wrong here..... I mean really! Come on!!!!

I'll be honest, I really don't know why I like this movie. It's not perfect, it's nowhere near it, but I can't help but like it! Maybe it's the director's arrogance, maybe it's the unintentionally hilarious dialogue, maybe the German photographer...

Mmmmm

Oh sorry again, or maybe it's the fact that I purposely lowered my expectations. It's certainly not the sick materpiece the director wants you to believe, but for a sick twisted film, it does deliver. Nice effective (by Toe Tag Pictures of all companies. You'll even see a cameo by them), very gritty, very mean spirited and intense... and there's a hot German guy in it so there was no complaints from me!

I rated it 7/10. Nowhere near perfect, but enjoyable for what it is.

Thankyou for reading.

White Rose Campus: Then Everybody Gets Raped

You know what I hate? Misleading titles. I'm looking at you, Bill Zebub with your flick Jesus Christ Serial Rapist. Shame!
But you know what I love? Movies that are totally not misleading. White Rose Campus: The Everyone Gets Raped, is a very honest title. I know you think I'm making this title up, but I promise you I'm not, it's just Japanese;)

This movie is very much what you see is what you get. On a school trip, three freaks hijack onto a bus and molest/rape all the female students and their teacher. Any ugly students are kindly excused form the bus, as they will not be taking any part in their raping advertures. Unfortunately for the pretty ones, their excusion has only just begun.
Now meanwhile, the ugly students are picked up by some truck drivers. After telling them what had happened, they proceed to try and find the bus. Can they reach the bus in time before all the little ladies are violated?

This movie really cannot be taken seriously. Rape is terrible crime, but here we got a rapist that loves sniffing womans' used tampons, come on, this is way too OTT to be taken seriously. His performance is so erratic, it'll be hard to imagine this guy ever getting laid in real life. I mean look at this guy, he's got undies on his head!

At an hour and 5 mins running time, it's a very short and sleazy flick, it gets it's job done. Don't worry about acting or cinematography, or even a decent plot, cos that's all we get here. But for a Japanese rapesploitation, it's a pretty fun one at that.

Not much more I can say about this one, but if anyone wants a link to watch it online, you'll find it at Veehd, subbed.

Here on trash epics, we talk about a lot of trash. Some are good trash, some are not. This one really isn't good trash, but it's funny and entertaining, so if you have an hour to kill, why not watch some brainless japanese fluff.

Enjoy.
