#SpiderNoir (2026)

Amazon's 8-episode noir take on Spider-Man, set in an alternate 1930s Marvel universe.

Nicolas Cage is a pretty good fit for this. He takes inspiration from all those old-timey noir actors and seems to enjoy himself. It's still weird that he's in his 60s, but with enough makeup and CGI, he pulls off the necessary agility for Spider-Man.

This is not an origin story. "The Spider" has been retired for 5 years at the start of this series, but Brendan Gleeson's Silvermane has a plot that brings him back into action. Brendan is a great actor, and they try to put him in the spotlight, but he definitely feels secondary to some of the typical supervillain henchman who work for him.

Flint Marko (Sandman) is a decent portrayal of a conflicted thug, as is Lonnie Lincoln (Tombstone), but the fat dude playing Electro is a total cliche. I guess that's how he's supposed to be, but he thinks he's charming. I think he's a fat retard.

Most of the series is Nic Cage doing his noir act. Don't expect a lot of screentime for the Spider, because he mostly only has a little bit of action at the end where it turns all Marvel cliche on us like it always does. I do appreciate that it never went overboard with that, though. For the most part, it banks off the period-piece setting and mood rather than big action and explosions.

Would I watch another season? YES.
